Breathwork is Life Force
Nov 09, 2024
Breath is life. It connects us to all that is. It connects us to our bodies, our minds, and our spiritual essence. By consciously engaging with our breath, we tap into the energy that sustains us, heals us from within.
In many cultures and spiritual traditions, breath is considered the very essence of life. In Sanskrit, the word “prāṇa” refers not only to breath but also to the vital energy that animates all living beings. Similarly, in Chinese medicine, “qi” (or “chi”) is the life force energy that flows through our bodies, and breath is one of the primary ways to cultivate and balance it.
Breath is not just the key to our life force; it is a powerful tool for influencing both physical and mental health. Conscious breathwork can shift us from the "fight-or-flight" stress response to the "rest-and-digest" state, promoting healing and relaxation.
Studies show that slow, deep breathing stimulates the vagus nerve, which stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which lowers heart rate, reduces stress, promotes relaxation, improves mood, and enhances cognitive function.
The more deeply and fully we breathe, the more oxygen our body receives, enhancing the function of vital organs, improving energy levels, and supporting detoxification, not to mention higher levels of nitric oxide, a molecule that helps improve blood flow, reduces inflammation, and supports the immune system.
Techniques like diaphragmatic breathing or box breathing can lower cortisol levels and improve overall wellbeing. Whether you want to reduce stress, improve health, or deepen your connection to the present moment (the now, zero point), breathwork offers a simple yet profound tool to enhance wellness. So, take a deep breath and feel the power of life itself.
Start today.
Upon awakening, when the mind is still partially in dream world, take ten minutes to practice a simple breathing technique and notice how it makes you feel. Let your breath guide you to a place of calm, clarity, and connection.
Start here. This is the approach I use and would recommend, but feel free to use other techniques:
- Place boundaries. Set the intention – verbally or in your thoughts – that only positive, loving, high vibration, helpful energies are allowed to enter your body and auric field.
- Take 4-6 slow, deep diaphragmatic inhales through the nose and feel the belly expand; slowly exhale through the mouth; repeat until you feel calm and centered. (Breathe in such a way that fills you with life force prāṇa, while you remain calm, relaxed, and centered.)
- As you continue this practice each day, you will quickly reach that point of quiet. Do not be discouraged if it’s not happening in the first few days.
- Command (set an intention) from your heart center that the ego-monkey-mind thoughts and feelings of stress dissolve and disappear. You can visualize gathering up any persistent thought forms and placing them in another virtual room to be dealt with later.
- If the ego pushes back and wants to be noisy or remain the center of attention, bundle up the ego along with its nagging thoughts and place it in that virtual room. Or simply visualize the space cleared of anything that tries to stay.
- Feel the ego move aside. Feel the clear, calm, connection.
- Keep breathing, sitting in your heart space, clearing thought forms until you do feel a clear connection. (In the beginning, it’s a process.)
- From heart space, breathe and connect to the quiet void, the emptiness. Placing your hand on your heart may help.
- Sit in solitude. If thoughts fly in, just send them away. If the mind doesn’t shut down, focus on something that makes you happy, something you love.
- Beginners can repeat these 4 steps, until the process feels comfortable and successful. There’s no prerequisite timeline for progress. This is your life force work.
- Next level: ask to be given any messages that Spirit has for you (do not ask specific questions or ego-centric questions). Be still. Listen for guidance.
- Next level: set an intention to meet your higher self, your angels, or your guides (whatever you are comfortable with).
- Ask to hear any messages, guidance, or instructions that are beneficial to know.
- Listen. This is not the time for you to do the talking! LOL
These days, I can slip into spirit realm easily. Sometimes just my intention takes me there and I’m greeted by my higher self instantly. Other times, it takes a few good, deep breaths before the white plasma light shoots out from the heart chakra. The light energy zooms up to the heavens, down to earth’s core, and out to the four corners as far as the east is from the west (right and left sides of the body). I am connected to The All.
This took practice. More accurately, it took quiet intention that I was missing for many years. I wasn’t able or willing to calm my thoughts, being too distracted by the To Do List or getting to work on time, or yada, yada, yada.
Yet, the breath, the life force energy flowing from and through the auric body, out to all realms of the quantum is magical. Each time you connect it's a new experience. For me, receiving guidance and answers from Source is always emotional.
Once you set the resolve to improve breathwork, you will never look back.
